Theatre Operations & Technical Assistant
Matt takes care of the day-to-day operations of the historic Grand Theatre Center for the Arts in Tracy, CA. This theatre was originally built in 1923 as a premiere Vaudeville half-house in the area. The Grand went through an extensive remodel and re-opened in September 2007 as a 37,000+ square foot municipal interdisciplinary arts center that hosts 50,000 patrons a year. Matt leads and oversees a team of 3 part-time personnel to complete all technical aspects of the shows at the Grand. His primary technical role is to manage all lighting elements for incoming touring productions and designing for all center produced shows.

Floodjay Productions was created by Matt as his own production company to provide quality production services for his clients. When the inquiries mounted, he decided to take on the jobs through an actual business. This has morphed over the years into a full-fledged production company able to provide production services, lighting design, audio design, consulting and purchasing of materials! If you need A/V equipment, facility maintenance, or plans for installation Matt is the right person for the job. He is kept busy with clients requiring his services for lighting design in house of worship, dance, theatre, opera and more!

GALLO CENTER FOR THE ARTS
Theatre Technician
The Gallo Center for the Arts is a state-of-the-art performing arts complex in downtown Modesto. The Gallo houses two performance venues, the 1248-seat Mary Stuart Rogers Theater and the 440-seat Foster Family Theater. Each is a proscenium theater with a legitimate stage and fly loft. Both theaters have orchestra pits, stage aprons, and scene docks, and are equipped with modern audio-visual, rigging, drapery, lighting control, orchestra pit lift, and orchestra shell systems, allowing a wide range of acoustical, scenic and staging manipulation. Matt assists on an on-call basis for any team as needed. This ranges from lighting, follow-spot, audio, fly, video and loader.

CARNIVAL CRUISE LINE
Lighting Technician
Matt worked with Carnival Cruise Line for about 2 years as a Lighting Technician within their fleet of 29 vessels. During his time, he worked a variety of consoles: Grand MA, Grand MA 2, ETC Expression III and CueServers. He operated the pyrotechnics on board. He was in charge of the safe storage, inventory, preparations, firing and disposal of all entertainment pyrotechnics on board. Timecoded shows, video servers, lazers, atmospherics, intelligent moving light maintenance were all common topics Matt has a knowledge of. As part of his time on board the ships, he had to be able to take on the role of “Tech-On-Duty.” This meant being knowledgeable on all equipment across the ship including, burt not limited to, guest TV’s, secondary lounge audio and video equipment and main lounge equipment. He cross-trained with other departments including audio and automation.

THE HOUSE: MODESTO
Assistant Lighting Director / Designer
The House Modesto is a megachurch in Modesto, CA with over 5,000 weekly attendees. Matt was brought in as the Assistant Lighting Director/Designer to take over the lighting for their youth services and to assist with many productions the main church would put on. This ranged from large-scale Christmas productions, illustrated messages, large conferences and concerts. It was part of Matt’s responsibilities to design and operate the lighting rig for youth functions independently, assist in lighting tasks for productions and assist the lighting director. This is where he got weekly experience with an ETC Gio console.

MODESTO JUNIOR COLLEGE
Student Event Technician / Professional Expert
While Matt was at Modesto Junior College obtaining his associate degree in theatre, he was hired on to assist the technical director in putting on multiple school productions, rentals and more. He got broad experience in working with lighting, audio, video and rigging. It was here he learned more about digital audio consoles and Qlab. Matt was promoted to the “Professional Expert” position as soon as new position was created. As Student Event Technicians always had varied backgrounds and experience levels, he would assist them, as needed, with many technical tasks and duties required within the job. During his time there, he was asked to create a thorough document for incoming house managers. He also was asked to prepare and present a training to all technical staff (at the college) on how to operate Qlab, along with best practices.

MODESTO COVENANT CHURCH
Worship Arts Administrative Assistant
Matt worked with the Worship Arts Pastor at Modesto Covenant Church to assist him in the many tasks of running the ministry. The church has a weekly attendance of around 500. This included stage arrangements/design, technical setup (mics, stands, etc.), printing of music for weekly services, scheduling assistance on Planning Center (an online house of worship service planner/scheduler), submitting check and visa requests and assisting in the worship service planning.

MODESTO COVENANT CHURCH
Lighting Designer
Modesto Covenant Church went through different leadership changes and was looking for some stability in its worship arts technical department. Matt was hired to lead the lighting elements of services. The church has around 500 weekly attendees. His tasks were to coordinate, design and program the lighting for services to be easily operated by volunteers. Matt lead the media team (which also operated the lighting console) and ensured consistent operation of all lighting elements in the weekly Sunday services. As the lead, he presented different trainings and headed the recruitment of volunteers.
